Grinder Pumps
The Village’s Grinder Pump Sanitary Sewer System was originally chosen for use in Birch Lakes Subdivision and other areas of the Village as the most cost effective way to provide service. The system works by grinding solid waste so it can be pumped through sewer lines as small as 1 & 1/4".

NOTE: GRINDER PUMPS HAVE LIMITATIONS
The system has served the Village well for the past 20 years but it does have limitations concerning the types of materials that can be effectively handled by the grinder mechanism.  The following is a list of the types of waste products, which create maintenance problems for the grinder pumps and are best disposed of in the garbage:

  • Grease from cooked food
  • Female sanitary products - Diapers, baby wipes, etc. - Floor cleaning pads
  • Rags
  • Small solid objects
  • Paper towels
  • String
